Lucas couldn't stand it anymore.
Jen had, once again, sat staring out on the city, occasionally gazing at one of the few pictures they had left from their time in the twenty-first century. Catching the eyes of Trip and Katie, he got up. "Jen."
"Hm?" their leader asked.
"Do you ever wish to go back to the twenty-first century?"
Jen seemed to pull herself together a little, and answered. "Sometimes. But they're not going to let us go back."
Lucas nodded. Sitting down by her, he said, "Maybe." He looked at the other two, knowing that they would support him. "But ever since you came back to the thirtieth century... it's like you left something vital behind. It's getting painful to watch you. It's like you're just going through the motions of life."
She looked away from him, and he knew he was right. Each of them had left something of themselves behind in the twenty-first century, but Jen had left part of her heart behind with Wes. In some way, she had adapted far too well to his time.
"Jen, I think it's time for you to go home."
"And we'll help," Trip said from behind him.

The trio met Jen as she got off from her first time flight, way back into the past. The smile she gave them meant that she'd gotten through it okay, and that it hadn't brought up so many bad memories as she thought it would.
Lucas smiled at her, matching Trip's and Katie's smiles.

It was time for Jen's final trip, the final time he would see her again, and Lucas found himself trying to quell the nervousness inside. Only he, Trip, Katie, and Jen herself knew that this would be a one-way visit, and not to the sixteenth century.
"We're ready," Trip said quietly.
Katie nodded, and Lucas found himself nodding also. He tried to memorize her features without being obvious.
"Good luck."
Jen gave a final, authoritative nod. "Thank you."
And, with one last look, she departed.
