"Why does this always happen to me?" Tommy asked the empty room. He didn't expect an answer.
He wondered why he always attracted the bad guys. First Rita, just by the bad luck to be competing with Jason, then with Zedd determined to change him back to evil again, and then Gasket.
The last time was the worst. Sure, Rita had made him believe he was evil, but what Gasket had done was far worse. He'd just made Tommy forget his life and his friends, but left in his sense of justice and fair play.
He'd attacked his friends, tossing them this way and that, and attacking Jason the most. Somehow, it always seemed to end up between him and Jason. Both times because Jason had led the team.
Tommy felt fortunate that he'd had such friends to rescue him, even when he hadn't wanted to be rescued. If it hadn't been for Jason and Kat, he'd still be evil. Still be doing the wrong things because the bad guys were able to wrap him around their little fingers.
At least Gasket's plan backfired when Kat was able to take advantage of the fact that Tommy still wouldn't take on an unarmed opponent, evil or not. He'd struggled, but Kat had refused to let go until he'd seen the truth. Until he remembered who he was, and who the others were.
The first chance he got, he went home and rested. He knew it wasn't his fault, that he'd fought back the best he could, but somehow it wasn't enough. Not by a longshot.
But he couldn't let evil win. He couldn't give up just because he was a prime target for brainwashing. That would be admitting defeat. Besides, the team wouldn't let him do it.
He smiled. *Jason* wouldn't let him do it. Not after forty zillion pep talks. Not after he got consumed with guilt after Tommy lost his powers. Jason wouldn't let him walk away. And that was a good thing.
No, he wouldn't let Gasket or anybody else win. Not while there were Rangers. Not while he had anything to do with it.
He got a fresh set of clothes on and set off to see his team.
